What is Groovideo?

Groovideo is an application for creating group videos. It enables users to easily create customized videos with friends. Thanks to our unique wizard and secret editing algorithms, users can produce personalized video-greetings with friends and family in a few easy steps.

What kind of videos can I create?

You can create various kinds of videos:
1. Birthday videos - Celebrate your friend’s birthday by surprising him or her with a creative birthday greeting.
2. Wedding videos - Congratulate the happy couple with a video featuring friends both near and far.
3. Freestyle videos - Express your creative side by creating any type of groovideo (music video, graduation, etc.), together with your friends.

How do I get started?

Click on either "Test it out" on our homepage or "Create video" on the menu on the upper-right side of any page on our site.
Groovideo will then walk you through the three steps required to create a video:

  1. First, pick the video’s recipient and invite friends to join in.
  2. Choose a soundtrack for the video.
  3. Record your scene in the video.

What are the scenes of a video?

Recording several distinct scenes adds a new editing aspect to your video. Currently we suggest the following scenes:

  • Personal Greeting - Add a spoken message to the video. This is your chance to be sincere, funny, or absurd!
  • Dance – Dance with your friends. Have fun, and show off your moves (we’ll provide the music).

How long does it take to make a video?

The entire creation process takes about 3 minutes (including recording). The rendering of the edited video takes a a bit longer (a few extra minutes). When the video is edited and ready to go, we’ll let you know via email (whichever address is currently configured with your Facebook account).

What happens after I’ve created my video?

The friends who you've selected for your cast will receive an invitation to join the video. They have until 11:59pm on the due date (your local time) to add their scenes.
At any point before the due date, you can still invite more friends, “nudge” invitees to record their parts, and re-record your own segment.
Whenever a friend records a scene, it is automatically added into the video, so that you don't have to wait for all the invitees to join. Throughout the creation process, the most up-to-date version of the video will be available on the video's page.
On your video's due date, you can start to share, like and comment on your video.

What does it mean that my video is public?

A public video is a video that anyone can see.
If your video is really good, it might be featured in groovideo's Awesome groovideos section, so anyone can see what a star you are!
Groovideo will also share your public videos with your Facebook friends, so they can all be impressed by your work.

How can I change the video’s due date?

The video’s due date is the last day that your invitees can add their segments. It is also the date that the final video is sent to its very lucky and hopefully unexpecting recipient.
If you want to change the due date of a video that you created, simply go to the video's page on the Web app (by clicking its name from "My Videos"). Select a new date for the video, and save your changes once you’re finished.

I can't see myself when trying to record

In order to record yourself, you will need Adobe Flash Player, version 10.0 or higher.
If you already have Adobe Flash installed on your computer, make sure that you activate Flash here.
When your camera has loaded successfully, you will have to click Allow before you can begin to record.

To download your copy of Adobe Flash Player:
Get Adobe Flash player

How does Groovideo automatically edit a birthday video for my friends?

Based on your facebook account, we try and analyze who might be a close friend of yours. We do this by checking with whom have you created videos and by checking for other parameters on facebook (tagged photos, close friends and more).
After understanding who is relevant and who is not, we then use the public photos these friends share on facebook (only the public ones) and automatically edit them into a memorable video you can send them.

My camera won't record. What can I do?

If Flash is denied once, record will not work until you reset your approval here. If it still doesn't work, please contact us and we'll take a look at your specific problem.

My video is not synced / My video is cut in the middle

Try one of the following:

  • Close open tabs in your browser.
  • Try working with Chrome browser.
  • Try Recording with another internet connection or device (another computer or an iphone).

How do I share, post or email my video?

When on the video's page, click on the "Share" button to share the video with your friends.
You can also click on "My videos" (on the upper-right corner of the page) to see the "Share" button on your dashboard.
In addition, if you allow auto publishing, Groovideo will share it for you on Facebook when the due date arrives.

How much does it cost?

Nothing! For the next 2 months, you can create fun, personal videos for free.

What if I don't like my videos?

You can re-record yourself for as many times as you want.
Click the "Edit my parts" button to review and re-record your scenes.

Who can I invite to join a video?

Anyone with a Facebook account. (So, pretty much everyone… :) )
If you need to invite someone who isn’t on your friends list... do not fret! You can send them invitations via email. Additionally, the video’s creator isn’t the only one who can invite new cast members -- all invitees can invite more participants as well.

How can I delete my video?

At the moment the option to delete a video exists only on our website.
Go to "My videos" section in www.groovideo.com, and click on the video you want to delete.
Then, you'll find the "Delete" button on the bottom right corner of the page. Click it, confirm the deletion and you are done!

When is the video edited?

Groovideo edits the video whenever a new video segment is added. That means that at any time, you can find a fully updated and edited version of the video.

Why does Groovideo need to manage my events?

In order to invite your friends to participate in the video, Groovideo creates a Facebook event on your behalf.
Don't worry, Groovideo won’t touch any of your other events.

Why does Groovideo need to know my friends' relationships?

Groovideo wants to be able to recognize, and remind you of, all the relevant upcoming video-worthy events.
If we know your friends’ relationships, we can keep track of who is married to whom, who is engaged, etc... and creating a video for a friend's wedding or anniversary can make great gift!

What is all the buzz around photos?

We just added a new feature that allows you to incorporate photos to your groovy video creations. Given the required Facebook permission, we pull specific photos from your albums, and add photo-montage scenes to your video.
The photos that you select will automatically be integrated into your video along with your video recordings.
Coming soon: you’ll be able to upload photos from your computer as well.
